We provide a forum for interaction and information exchange within Rwanda seed industry.

ABOUT US

  • Formed in 2015 by the Rwandan seed industry players, the National Seeds
    Association of Rwanda (NSAR) is a professional association representing
    the seed players as an advocacy Institution that facilitates an optimum
    environment to bring value to all its stakeholders. It has over the years
    served as an effective voice to all its members in reference to the
    development, marketing and movement of seed associated products
    throughout the local, regional and international markets.

    NSAR recognizes the importance of multi-sectoral engagement and co-
    ownership in seed development and access to improved seeds and hence

    commends the public and Private stakeholder engagements, support and
    efforts that contributed to the successful launch and publication of the
    Private Sector Strategic Roadmap for Rwanda Seed Industry 2030 that was
    held at Marriot Hotel on 25th October, 2023.

NSAR ENGAGED WITH GOVERNMENT AND THE FOLLOWING KEY ASPECTS ARE MAPPED

  • Government through RAB exited the active maize production environment and focus to be a regulatory player.
  • A new government body RICA was established with purpose to conduct:
    • All regulatory aspects of seed activities
      • Certification inspections
      • Quality control inspections
      • Phyto inspections and all other related issues
    • RAB to continue to support farmers to enhance their productivity and yield
    • RAB to do its own research were applicable
  • Active program to promote use of seed from the formal seed sector.
    • Television show
    • Direct Engagement with farmers
    • Engagement via districts
  • Active engagement with financial institutions to support farmers using formal seed products
  • Active engagement with RAB to enable their officers to promote the use of formal seed
  • Improved monitoring services to enhance quality of seed offered to farmers and make farmers aware of these benefits
  • Attend AFSTA congress in Kenya and Tunisia
  • AFSTA visted NSAR in Rwanda to stimulate certified seed usage
  • Visit ASTA congress in USA and engage with International seed industry players
  • Present training for industry players on seed production presented by UC Davies university
  • Plan to visit ISF in Cape Town next year
  • Engage with various seed associations in Africa
  • Engage with Agra, USAID etc. on continues basis
  • Meeting with members to explain benefits of formal seed system
  • Engage with Bank of Kigali to help members to get finance for member operations
  • Engage with government to support and train members in seed related affairs
  • Explain to members the suggested changes in seed systems (continues process)
  • Engage with members and assist the with all issues involving government and industry
  • Constant communication with members to keep them informed
  •
